TFC Kills At The Cable Show!

Well, denizens, our hope was simple and modest—to make a respectable showing and presentation at the largest cable industry convention in the world, the NCTA Cable Show. To say we met and exceeded that goal would be the understatement of the year.

Before the show even opened, TFC’s President and Founder, Rob Claridge, held a small press conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007. Fifteen minutes after the scheduled start time, there were NO journalists in sight. Nearly ready to leave, Claridge decided to slowly begin his presentation. Lo and behold, a few stragglers wandered in to find out what the ruckus was (Claridge blasted the TFC trailer and TFC music in the room!), and they stuck around. One journalist represented MultiChannel News, a major industry trade publication, and ended up writing a rather favorable article in the following day’s edition (thanks, Linda!). The rest, you could say, was horrific history.

By Tuesday afternoon, the cable show and horror fan sites were ablaze with talk of this new upstart on the block, The Fright Channel. A non-stop stream of industry insiders, programmers, distributors, technology representatives, legislators, lawyers, data managers, even representatives for Southern Asian countries, France, and Chile lined up to visit the behemoth booth of the Fright Channel. (Okay…it was a tiny, 10’ X 10’ booth, the smallest available, but we couldn’t think of another adjective that started with a “b.”)

The response from both fans and industry professionals alike was through the roof! Everyone wanted to know more about it: When will it air? What markets will it be in? Is it a pay service? How do we get our content? Rob could barely keep breathe for all the traffic in the booth. Many people just wanted to say “Hi,” and look at the cool (cheesy) accoutrements decorating the booth. Most admitted in hushed tones that they were lifelong closet horror fanatics and couldn’t wait for the launch. Our black hearts were warmed.

The Fright Channel would like to extend a general and generous “Thank You” to the NCTA Cable Show and all the attendees and exhibitors who visited Claridge and TFC during their 3-day stay in Las Vegas. TFC respectfully acknowledges the attempts and successes of its competitors, and understands its treacherous and difficult journey to become the “home for horror” in cable-TV land. Let’s hope we all meet at the summit of this journey and raise a blood-filled chalice in triumph!
